Are these really the only costs?
Yes! There are no setup fees, installation fees, or other fees of any kind for Scholastica's Peer Review System, Production Service, or Open Access Publishing Platform.
What payment options does Scholastica accept?

How will my journal be charged?
- Peer review is charged once per year for the annual fee, and then monthly charges based on the number of manuscript submission.
- Open Access Publishing is charged once per year.
- Scholastica's Production Service bills monthly for all articles completed that month, and each article's cost is based on the number of words, figures, tables, and block equations.
Can I pay monthly Scholastica product fees in advance (e.g., pre-pay for the year, use grant funds, etc.)?
Yes! Scholastica offers the option to add any amount of journal funds to your account upfront. Once you've added funds to your account, Scholastica will draw from that balance each billing period. We will send you reminders to add more funds to your account when needed. Learn more here.
Is there a long-term contract?
No! You can sign up for Scholastica in just a few minutes, and you're free to cancel at any time.
Can my journal have authors pay the peer review submission fee?
Yes, you can include a submission step prompting authors to pay the submission fee by credit card.
Can I export my publication data from Scholastica?
Yes! With Scholastica, you remain in control of all of your publication data. Your admin editor can request your journal's raw data in a standardized format (e.g., XML, JSON, etc.) at any time via a download button in your Scholastica account.
If I submit a typesetting request for an article that is not divisible by 500 words (e.g., has 510 words), how will I be charged?
Scholastica charges for each set of 500 words, rounding up to the next 500 increment. For example, it would cost $7 for an article between 1 and 500 words in length, and $14 for an article between 501 and 1000 words in length. We do this to simplify billing, so there is no need to calculate "by the word" charges.
